MMC Africa has come under missile attack following a consistent pattern of articles and social media postings that seem to link the firm to corrupt deals. For a reputable firm dealing with mega corporates and priding as an international entity, things have gotten ugly for them in the recent past.

On Tuesday, a section of Twitter users ran an hashtag #MMCcartelLawFirm which in context painted the law firm as being a conduit of corruption and that its being used by graft ridden individuals to launder money and propagate corruption.

While all these remains mere allegations, a popular Kenyan whistleblower website exposed MMC Africa as being involved in a rusty deal with the National Hospital Fund NHIF in a Sh500M scandal that would in triple effect cost many poor Kenyans who can’t access basic healthcare. It’s alleged that the fund’s CEO Hannah Muriithi has brought onboard MMC Africa a firm she allegedly has links with and awarded them the Sh500M restructuring contract.

MMC was also dragged into a Safaricom suit by a petitioner seeking a Sh115Trillion settlement for client’s data breach. According to the details of the petition, Safaricom leaked confidential data of 11.5M costumers exposing them to immeasurable consequences. The company has since admitted to the data leak which attracts the affected customers to sue for the Sh10M settlement each. Safaricom remains one of MMC’s top clients. Kenya’s Whistleblower Blogger detailed this here.

MMC continues to expand their boundaries now with ASAFO & Co which brings a stream of high end lawyers in the commercial law field. It remains one of the leading reputable law firms in Kenya despite the accusations.
