The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority(EPRA) has alerted the public to be on the lookout for a fraudster who has been extorting businesses.
EPRA says it has received numerous reports of the fraudster, who goes by the name “Eng Maingi Epra”, soliciting money from its license holders, in pretence of processing the licences.
“The individual is soliciting money from our licensees in pretence of processing their licences using mobile number 0700137854,” says EPRA.

EPRA says that license application or renewal fee is only payable through the authority’s Kenya Commercial Bank Account – 1107180198 or M-PESA Paybill No. 899000 and not to individuals.
“All licensees are hereby advised to report suspected fraudsters to the nearest Police Station or to the Authority through hotline number 0708 444 000 or [email protected] Stay Vigilant!” adds EPRA.
EPRA has been transitioning into a digital mode of license applications, issuance and verification of licenses.
Through a series of tweets, it has been demonstrating steps that licensees may follow for successful applications and payments for their licenses.
